tangerine rhymes

like some orange peel
rocking on her back
as a meandering wind goes by

with her innards
coral tangerine succulent no more;
the promise of a citrus explosion,
drying quietly on the side

i too
have carved you out since
laid you out aside

to shrivel and curl up inside
and as your breath is being thieved
by the earth upon which you lie
i poem odes to orange rinds.

A watery grave

on the sea bed of disgrace
where sea slugs drag slimy distended bodies over me
where sea horses prance with unholy glee
and crayfish tease my ear with snipes
i am often asked why
i lay
where no one else dare lie

and my reply:
for at this watery bottom
i can go no further
and my eyes will have only
this aqueous blanket
to fill with.

Salt

we used to sit
toes wriggling
in licks
and strokes
of salty foam
leaving crusty bits
to build their homes
in our nails

you picked
the sun out of the sky
smiling,
held it to your eye
then handed it to me
a coin,
a token,
of our upside down love

i now sit alone
with still toes
on a sea bed
folded and kept aside

smiling
i hold to my eye
a rusty coin
our crusty love
to gaze
upon the hole in the sky.
